The Grand and Wonderful Day (Little Golden Book)
Published in Hardcover by Golden Books Pub Co Inc (December, 1995)
Average review score:

AdorableThis was a favorite of my son and I when he was little. It's predicated on two mysteries: What "grand and wonderful thing" is going to happen today, and just why are Pooh's friends all away when he visits them? The text is very Pooh-oriented ("Although the honey was yummy in Pooh's tummy, it did nothing to jog his memory".... "being a bear of very little brain"... and a song that ends, "rum tiddly tiddly tum,") and the whole book has a ring of authenticity. There's even a mention of the mildly scary "heffalumps and woozles." All turns out well: "...I just remembered that no bear ever had such grand and wonderful friends." The book has 25 pages, with simple, uncluttered pictures on each page.

Greatest Stars of the Opera: The Lives and the Voices of Two Hundred Golden Years
Published in Paperback by Gremese Editore (October, 2002)
Average review score:

An Entertaining Tribute to the Greatest Opera StarsThis is definitely a must for all opera lovers. Enrico Stinchelli gives an entertaining and informative account of some of the greatest opera singers of the 20th century. After an insightful introduction, the author divides the book into categories: tenors, sopranos, mezzo-sopranos, baritones and basses. On each category, the author gives a description of the voice category, its categories and repertoire, and then gives insightful profiles of the greatest names on each category. All the profiles discuss the voice, repertoire and career of each singer. Therefore, in the same book you can have profiles and excellent photographs of such greats as Alfredo Kraus, Franco Corelli, Leontyne Price and Joan Sutherland, among many others. The photographs are both black and white and wonderful color. Of course, you will probably miss some of the younger stars today (Fleming, Alagna, Gheorghiu, Jo, Cura) probably because they are still young and beginning their careers. However, the selection of singers has almost all of the greatest singers. And the book ends with a real jewel: a singing lesson from the great Alfredo Kraus from a master class held in Rome in 1990. It is a great souvenir to understand the late tenor's singing technique and the reason of his miraculous vocal longevity. A great way to finish a book that pays tribute to great singing.

The Greatest Treasure of All

Coloring, Activities, There's So Much Here! This book is a great value if you or your kid are (is) a fan of "Dragon Tales." For a very low price, there's so much to do here! The inside front contains four full-color, beautiful cut-out postcards. The story itself is fairly decent and it doubles as a coloring book, so the reader gets to bring it to life in color themself. In the back are full color cut-outs of various elements of the story to add in and there are also finger-puppets. All around, a great value, plus, by buying the book, you support Sesame Workshop, helping to ensure more great productions like this in the future.

Grover Takes Care of Baby
Published in School & Library Binding by Goldencraft (October, 1987)
Average review score:

Grover Takes Care of BabyI liked this book personally because it had to do with babies. It made you understand how a little kid would take care of a baby. In the beginning Grover was playing ball and it rolled under a baby carriage. He noticed it was his friend Marsha and her little brother Max. So he asked her what she was doing and she said she was taking care of Max while her mom and dad went away. So, Grover said if I was babysitting my little cousin I would teach her how to climb a mountain. Battle a wild gang of lions, and everything in between. In the end his Aunt called and asked if his mom and him could watch his baby cousin. So, he ended up feeding her and babysitting her.

Halliwell's hundred : a nostalgic choice of films from the golden age
Published in Unknown Binding by St. Martin's Press ()
Average review score:

One of the greatest books of film criticism of all timeForget the pretentious drivel of the post - deconstructionists. Here is a man who loves films and enjoys telling people about the films he loves best. I cannot believe it is out of print. I was searching for a new copy to replace the one I owned that has fallen apart from reading and re-reading. Halliwell delights in revisiting the classics, but also in highlighting some delightful minor films. I relish Father Brown which I had to go to a midnight showing. I have spent 16 years tracking down all the films in this book and every single one has been a joy. I have six to go and I hope I get to see them all. Halliwell repeated the dose with Halliwell's harvest - an equally enjoyable book. I cannot imagine that anyone who loves films could not enjoy this book. He can be a bit stuffy in his criticism, but this is a quibble for one of the best film books about. Not only does he tell you about the film. He talks about where he saw the film and I loved his story about Gaslight that he saw three times in one day. His mother eventually came to get him out of the theatre only to watch the film herself.
